What the label says

FOLIGAIN® Minoxidil 5% for Men and 2% for Women are labeled for twice-daily use: 1 mL applied to the thinning area in the morning and again in the evening. Using more, or more often, won't speed things up and can raise the chance of irritation or side effects.

Morning application: pros and cons

A morning dose is easy to tie to an existing habit, like brushing your teeth.

  • Pro: easy to remember as part of your routine
  • Pro: it dries while you get dressed
  • Con: it can make styling harder if applied to wet or styled hair
  • Tip: apply to a dry scalp, let it dry, then style

Night application: pros and cons

An evening dose gives Minoxidil plenty of undisturbed time on the scalp.

  • Pro: no styling to worry about
  • Pro: long contact time overnight
  • Con: if it's still wet, it can rub onto pillowcases and your face
  • Tip: apply at least an hour or two before bed, or use a pillowcase you don't mind

A simple schedule that works for most people

What if I can only manage once a day?

Once a day is better than giving up entirely, but it isn't what the twice-daily labels were tested on, so results may be slower or smaller. If twice a day feels impossible, ask a pharmacist or clinician about options that fit your routine.

Missed a dose?

Just skip it and apply your next dose at the usual time. Don't apply extra to catch up. For more, see our guide to missed doses and stopping Minoxidil.

Frequently asked questions

Is it better to apply Minoxidil at night?

Not necessarily. Consistency matters more than the exact time. Night works well if you let it dry before lying down.

How far apart should the two doses be?

Aim for roughly 12 hours apart, such as 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

Can I apply it right before bed?

You can, but it may transfer to your pillow and face. Applying an hour or two earlier is kinder to both.
