The labeled amount
The amount on the label is the amount that was tested. For the liquid, that's 1 mL with the dropper. For foam, it's half a capful. That covers the top of the scalp for most people, even when the thinning area looks large.
Why more isn't better
Follicles can only respond so much. Extra Minoxidil just sits on the skin, raises the chance of itching, dryness and unwanted facial hair from drips, and uses up the bottle faster. If 1 mL doesn't seem to cover your area, spread it more thinly rather than adding more.
How often
| Product | Doses per day |
|---|---|
| Men's Minoxidil 5% (liquid or foam) | 2 |
| Women's Minoxidil 2% liquid | 2 |
| Women's Minoxidil 5% foam | 1 |
Timing your doses
If you use it twice a day, roughly 12 hours apart is easy to remember: once in the morning, once in the evening. If you go to bed soon after the evening dose, give it at least an hour to dry so less transfers to your pillow.

Frequently asked questions
Can I use Minoxidil three times a day?
No. Stick to the labeled number of doses.
Does once a day work if I can't manage twice?
Once a day is better than stopping, but twice-daily products were tested twice daily. Talk to a pharmacist if the routine is hard to keep.
How long does a bottle last?
One 60 mL bottle used at 1 mL twice a day lasts about a month.

Individual results vary. Hair-growth products are used consistently over months, and outcomes depend on the cause and stage of hair loss.
