Why people choose foam
Minoxidil foam has the same active ingredient as the liquid. It dries faster, feels less greasy, and has no propylene glycol, an ingredient that can irritate some scalps. The trade-off: getting foam through thick hair onto the scalp takes a bit more practice.
How to apply it
- Rinse your hands in cold water and dry them.
- Shake the can and hold it upside down.
- Dispense half a capful onto your fingertips or the cap.
- Part your hair over the thinning area and press the foam onto the scalp.
- Spread it gently along the part, then make new parts as needed.
- Wash your hands.
Foam vs liquid at a glance
| Foam | Liquid | |
|---|---|---|
| Active ingredient | Minoxidil | Minoxidil |
| Propylene glycol | No | Usually yes |
| Drying time | Faster | Slower |
| Reaching the scalp through thick hair | Harder | Easier with a dropper |

Frequently asked questions
Is foam stronger than liquid?
No. A 5% foam and a 5% liquid contain the same strength of Minoxidil.
Can I apply foam to wet hair?
Apply to a dry scalp so the foam isn't diluted.
Why does my foam disappear before I apply it?
Warm hands melt it. Cool your fingers with cold water and dry them first.
