Hair Growth FAQ

Can I make my hair grow faster?

You can't meaningfully speed up the biological rate of normal growth, but correcting any nutrient deficiencies, treating scalp conditions and reducing breakage all help you keep and show off the length you're already growing.

Does hair grow faster in summer?

Some small studies suggest minor seasonal shifts in growth rate, but the difference is not large enough to plan around.

Why does my hair seem to stop growing at a certain length?

That's usually your anagen (growth phase) length showing itself — each hair sheds and restarts once it reaches the end of its individual growth window, which caps how long it can get.

Is slow hair growth the same as hair loss?

No. Slow but even growth across a full head of hair is different from thinning, a widening part or a receding hairline, which point toward pattern hair loss or shedding rather than a growth-rate issue.

Does Minoxidil make hair grow faster?

Minoxidil is understood to extend the anagen (growth) phase of miniaturizing hairs rather than speeding up the rate at which normal hair lengthens; its role is mainly in pattern hair loss, not general growth speed.

What ferritin level is good for hair?

Reference ranges vary by lab, and some dermatologists aim for a higher ferritin target in women with shedding than the bare lab minimum used for general anemia screening. There's no single universal number, so it's worth discussing your specific result and symptoms with your doctor rather than comparing to a number you found online.

Do collagen supplements grow hair?

The evidence is limited and mostly preliminary. Collagen supplies amino acids the body can use for protein generally, including keratin production, but most people already get enough protein from a normal diet, so collagen supplements are unlikely to make a dramatic difference unless your overall protein intake was genuinely low to begin with.

Can too much biotin cause hair loss?

Biotin itself isn't well documented as a direct cause of hair loss at typical supplement doses, but high-dose biotin is a well-known cause of inaccurate thyroid and other hormone test results, which could lead to a missed or incorrect diagnosis of an actual cause of shedding — so it's worth disclosing biotin use before any relevant bloodwork.
